Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: DUST&FUMES
North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fire and explosion: a)door shop at CNC Router, KUFO UFO-103B 5hp enclosureless dust collector was located within 20' of an area routinely occupied by employees. b)door shop at trimming/molding area, KUFO UFO-102B 3hp enclosureless dust collector was located within 20' of an area routinely occupied by employees. c)door shop at trimming/molding area, J-M 4" 1245 PVC Sewer Pipe was utilized as a duct for the dust collection system. d)door shop, the manufacturing area and building did not contain fire walls, fire partitions, and was not designed with damage-limiting construction including deflagration venting or explosion relief venting. NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to: 1- Relocate personnel and/or dust collector at least 20 ft from occupied areas and any means of egress. 2- Utilize metallic duct for the dust collection system. 3- Install pressure relief system so that deflagration venting is to a safe location outside the building. References for abatement assistance include, but not limited to: National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 664, "Standard for the Prevention of Fires and Explosion in Wood Processing and Woodworking Facilities" (2007): a.
