Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by/caught in between hazards posed by the wooden roof truss collapse during installation: a)On October 13, 2009 at the jobsite located at 128 Wool Street in Barrington, Illinois, 60010, employees of Christian Jacob Homes, LLC were exposed to being struck and caught in between metal plate connected wood trusses that were not braced, installed and loaded in accordance to the manufacturer's specifications. 1.There were no top chord lateral braces installed on the trusses. 2.There were no ground braces installed. 3.There were no top chord diagonal braces installed on the trusses. 4.Loads were placed on the wooden trusses before they were fully braced. Feasible and acceptable methods of abatement to correct this hazard would be to: 1) Follow the manufacturer's specifications for erection and temporary bracing of wood trusses or 2) Conform to the Building Component Safety Information (BCSI) 1-03: Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses issued by The Wood Truss Council of America and Truss Plate Institute. **In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be included with your certification. This documentation may include, but is not limited to, evidence of the purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of abatement, or other written records.**
