Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards: a)Clove Road, Blooming Grove, NY - on or about June 6, 2011 - employee was exposed to struck-by hazards from vehicular traffic while emptying waste containers into the trash collection truck on public roads. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to; Follow the NSWMA (Solid Waste Management Association) RSP4D001-1999 Section 5.2(f)., which recommends collection routes that allow for work to be done on the curb side of the road, eliminating the hazard of crossing the streets, roads and highways. Retrain employees on procedures necessary for safe work operations, ie, use of high visibility apparel and other related procedures. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS CITATION ITEM.
