Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) Jobsite, 522 Rt 67 Amsterdam, NY- On or about 01/05/10- Employees in the processing area were exposed to a crushing hazard when working under suspended automobiles. The employees used cutting torches and propane torches to remove gas tanks and automotive parts while vehicles are suspended on the forks of a Fiat Allis FR15B turbo rubber tire wheel loader. Methods to correct this hazard include: 1.) Develop and utilize a comprehensive safety training program for employees on the use of heavy equipment. 2.) Follow the manufactures recommendations in the Safety Section of the owners manual and not lift loads over the heads of employees. 3.) Use a car rack to hold vehicles to be processed. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
