North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire and/or explosion hazards: a)kitchen, the control valves (knobs) on the Garland Model H-283 liquid petroleum (LP) stove did not have markings to identify whether valves were opened or closed. On 08/20/09, two employees were injured during a flash fire while attempting to light the pilots on the stove. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method would be to install control knobs that are properly marked so that employees know when the gas is flowing.
