Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: a) On or about May 13, 2010 and times prior, employees were exposed to serious injuries from being struck and crushed during the transportation and installation of a floor safe using unsafe material handing methods. One feasible and acceptable means of abatement includes developing and implementing a written procedure on how and when to properly use cribbing, jack stands, and or blocks for employees moving floor safes. Another feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to ensure that the floor safe is stable and secured so it cannot fall.
