Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were exposed to serious burn hazards: a)On or about April 22, 2010, a deep fat fryer was located in an area where it was not secured to prevent rolling and tipping. The fryer tipped spilling hot grease onto the surrounding area and seriously injuring an employee. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazardous condition would be to place the fryer in an area that would prevent the unit from being moved or tipped, possibly with restraining ties as recommended by the manufacturer. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
