Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: ELECTRIC
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to unsafe hazardous scissor lifts: On October 21, 2009, and other times prior, at this construction site, two scissor lifts in unsafe operating condition, were permitted to be used. The scissor lifts had unsafe conditions, such as, but not limited to: a.Scissor lift, CIN200235RTX-1948, serial number 8101727 1.Strain relief broken. 2.Exposed electrical wiring. 3.Upper controls not labeled. 4.Unsafe, ripped tires. b.Scissors lift JLG, 4x2x2, 25 RTS, number 646450 1.Personnel platform subject to sudden collapse. 2.Sudden surges of speed when shifted into forward or reverse direction. 3.Damaged guardrails. Among other methods, one feasible means of abatement is to comply with the provisions of American National Standards Institute/ SIA standard A92.6.
