Section 5(a)(1) of Public Law 91-596, the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that: The lift cables for the 3 ply wooden mats created a trip hazard due to the cable design. (a)Brandt Desander area, Leaf River Natural Gas Storage Facility, Taylorsville, MS - On or about January 29, 2010 the cables for the 3 ply wooden mats were looped upward 5 to 6 inches out of the mat to form a handle for lifting the mats during installation and removal. An employee foot could become entangled in the cables which could cause the employee to fall.
