Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards from the improper use of a step ladder; (a)On or about January 20, 2010 outside the maintenance building of Golden Triangle Mill Service, the step ladder being used to access the bed of the trailer was not fully opened and the top cap and top step was used. Reference for ladders -- ANSI A14.5-2000 Portable Reinforced Plastic - Safety Requirements, Section 9.3 Rules for Ladder Use, sub-sections 9.3.2 Climbing and Working Locations and 9.3.13.2 Stepladders. Among others, one feasible and useful abatement method is to erect a scaffold for access.
