Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards; (a)On or about August 26, 2009 at the worksite, a six (6) foot fiberglass step ladder had two (2) damaged steps. Reference for ladders -- ANSI A14.5-2000 Portable Reinforced Plastic - Safety Requirements, Section 9.4 Care, sub-sections 9.4.1 Inspection, and 9.4.2 Damaged Ladders. Among others, one feasible and useful abatement method to correct this hazard is to: Is to follow ANSI A14.5 which requires to conduct periodic (daily) inspections of ladders and remove damaged ladders from service.
