Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards due to the absence of a nameplate or markings on "Below- the-Hook" Lifting Devices" at to: (a)In shipping and receiving - On or about August 26, 2009, employees using the 10 ton crane were exposed to struck-by hazards due to no identification nameplate or markings visible on the Below-the-Hook Lifting Devices. All structural and mechanical lifting devices shall be marked with, but not limited to, the following: - Manufacturer's name and address - Serial number - Lifter weight, if over 100 lb (45) kg) - cold current (amps) (when applicable) - Rated voltage (if applicable) - Rated load [as described in para. 20-1.2.1(a)] - ASME BTH-1 Design Category - ASME BTH-1 Service Class Reference ASME B30.20-2006, Section 20-1.2 Marking, Construction, and Installation; Among others, one feasible and useful abatement method to correct this hazard is to; Mark the device which includes the information required by ASME B30.20-2006.
