29 CFR 005.a(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by falling portions of the hoisted load: a) Employees did not ensure that the load was seated in the saddle of the hook while they attempted to move the load to the roof. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard would be to use of the hook in accordance with Hooks ASME B30.10 1993, paragraph 10-1.3: Load shall be centered in the base (bowl / saddle) of the hook to prevent point loading of the hook. NOTE: BECAUSE ABATEMENT OF THIS VIOLATION IS ALREADY DOCUMENTED IN THE INSPECTION CASE, THE EMPLOYER NEED NOT SUBMIT CERTIFICATION OR DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT OF THIS VIOLATION AS NORMALLY REQUIRED BY 29CFR 1903.19.
