Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the condition(s) listed below: a) On May 27, 2010, and for a period of time prior to that date, on a drilling site on the Ted Johnson lease in Martin County, Texas, the mud line shut off valve located on the rig floor had one of three spokes broken off of the valve control. This condition rendered the valve more difficult to operate, thus exposing employees to an increased hazard of being struck by a broken high pressure line or a high velocity spray in the event that a mud line or connection failed. A feasible method of abating this condition would be to replace the valve.
