Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to dust explosion, deflagration, or other fire hazards: (a)The SLY STJ tube jet dust collector, plant identification number DC-A201, serial number JK6-9281 had no means to prevent an explosion or fire inside the dust collector from traveling back into the work place. (b)The Thyssen Henschel Kassel fluid mixer, plant identification number MX-C102, model number FM500H, serial number A04411, had no explosion protection. (c)The Thyssen Henschel Kassel fluid mixer, plant identification number MX-C102, model number FM500H, serial number A04411, had no deflagration isolation between it and the SLY STJ tube jet dust collector. Feasible abatement methods include complying with NFPA 654 Standard for the Prevention of Fire and Dust Explosions from the Manufacturing, Processing, and Handling of Combustible Particulate Solids, such as but not limited to: (1) installing fast-acting valve systems or flame front diverters on the ducts from the work areas to the dust collector, (2) installing deflagration venting on the mixer, and (3) installing fast-acting valves or flame front diverters on the duct between the mixer and the dust collector. Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required. Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be submitted within ten (10) calendar days after the abatement date.ment
