Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fire hazard: (a)Styro-Tech LLC at 5005 Lima St., Denver, CO 80239: On and preceding May 18, 2010, the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fire hazard. The employer manufactures expanded polystyrene foam (styrofoam) in which isopentane is used as the blowing agent. Process piping used to convey isopentane from the storage tank to the extruders was not labeled. Abatement Note: ASME A13.1-2007 provides a "Scheme for the Identification of Piping Systems". The standard recommends that flammable liquids, such as isopentane, be identified with black letters, 1/2" or larger, on a "safety yellow" background.
