Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: DUST&FUMES
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer does not furnish employment and a place of employment which are free from recogn ized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees are exposed to carbon monoxide due to the re-upta ke of exhaust and fumes into the intake vent: (a)Seneca Building: An instance of this violation was most recently observed on December 26, 2011, where employees were exposed to carbon monoxide, due to the improper ventilation of gas exhaust , in that the exhaust vents were not three feet above the air intake vents as re commended by NFPA 54. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acce ptable abatement method is that the employer must follow NPFA 54 National Fuel G as Code 12.9.1 which states mechanical draft venting system shall terminate at l east 3 feet above any forced air inlet located within 10 feet.
