Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard(s) of being struck by and/or punctured by plastic projectiles from ruptured compressed air distribution system piping: (a)Third Floor: Compressed air from an Ingersol Rand Compressor was distributed at 90 PSI throughout the third floor using PVC piping that was rated according to ASTM D1785 for fluid service only and was not protected by a shatter resistant barrier as documented on January 21, 2010. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS TO REPLACE THE PVC PIPING WITH IRON PIPING APPROVED FOR COMPRESSED GAS SERVICE. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM
