Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to the employees in that employees were exposed to struck by/caught between hazards from roof truss collapse during installation: a)Jobsite: On April 16, 2010 and times prior thereto, employees had installed more than 20 truss spans without adequate diagonal bracing to prevent collapse. Note 1) Feasible and acceptable methods of abatement to correct this hazard would be to follow either the manufacturer's recommendations on roof truss erection and/or the Building Component Safety Information (BSCI) Guide to Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses, issued by the Wood Truss Council of America (WTCA) and Truss Plate Institute (TPI). Note 2) Abatement certification is required for this item.
