Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling trusses: (a)Midwest Manufacturing Extrusion Plant; Employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck and crushed by improperly handled wood trusses which were damaged and knowingly installed prior to being structurally repaired. The trusses, which measured 110 feet 0 inches in length, were improperly handled in manners such as but not limited to: Midwest Manufacturing Extrusion Plant; On or before 10/07/2010, the third delivery of trusses was pushed over the blacktop surface of the parking apron by two powered industrial vehicles. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT INCLUDE: Following all of the Truss Plate Institute Building Component Safety Information (BCSI) guide to good practices for handling, installation, restraining & bracing of metal plate connected wood trusses, in the area of jobsite handling, 2008 addition, page 3. Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item.
