Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck-by unsecured air hose connections. Numerous high pressure air hoses were located under the vessel, on the main deck and within the vessel and the air couplings were not secured to prevent them from coming apart. The hoses were being used to provide compressed air to power the various air powered tools on and in the jack-up-boat under construction. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to secure the hose couplings with safety clips, retainers, or other positive means to prevent the couplings from becoming disconnected in accordance with manufacturers recommendations.
