Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: GUARDING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to caught-by hazards: a) Primary screen house. Employees taking material samples from the remotely controlled oversize conveyor were exposed to caught-by hazards. An audible and/or visual start-up warning device was not provided. Emergency stop buttons, pull cords, limit switches, or similar emergency stop devices were not provided. b) Primary screen house. Employees taking material samples from the remotely controlled product/fines conveyor were exposed to caught-by hazards. An audible and/or visual start-up warning device was not provided. Emergency stop buttons, pull cords, limit switches, or similar emergency stop devices were not provided. c) Primary screen house. Employees taking material samples from the remotely controlled undersize conveyor were exposed to caught-by hazards. An audible and/or visual start-up warning device was not provided. Emergency stop buttons, pull cords, limit switches, or similar emergency stop devices were not provided. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to abate these hazards is for the employer to comply with the guidelines set forth in consensus standard ASME B20.1-2009, Section 5.11.2. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
