Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that the company did not establish or perform periodic inspections or maintenance procedures on the following automotive lifts. a)On or about September 19, 2009, employees using two-plunger frame pick-up lift #5, model #DTO28H in bay #3, were exposed to struck-by and/or crushed-by hazards. The lift's locking latches were not operational. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to abate these hazards is for the employer to establish and perform the inspection and maintenance procedures set forth in consensus standard ANSI/ALI ALOIM: 2008 and the manufacture's guidelines set forth by Rotary Lift, Inc. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c). b)On or about September 19, 2009, employees using adjustable truck lift #6, model #AP52HC2 in bay #3, were exposed to struck-by and/or crushed-by hazards. The lift's hydraulic raising/lowering system was leaking. There is no abatement certification or documentation required for this item.
