Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fire/explosion hazards from the ignition of flammable vapors: On or about: 12/9/09 Location: Compactor room, 555 Tuckahoe Road, Yonkers, NY 10710 a) The trash compactor was used to dispose of and crush aerosol spray cans of "Glide Aerosol Paintable High Performance Spray Mold Release" containing hydrocarbons such as Hexane and Isobutane. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to separate and remove aerosol cans from the building waste stream before they enter the compactor. NOTE: The employer is required to submit abatement certification for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.ce
