Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to broken bones and dislocations: Adjacent to Ronald Brown Pavilion: On or about January 6, 2009 a) The Acker XLS did not have clearly marked emergency stop buttons. b) The secondary emergency stop button on the Acker XLS was bent and required more than momentary actuation. Among other methods, one feasible and useful method to correct this hazard is to develop, implement and enforce a maintenance program which requires the immediate repair and replacement of emergency stop buttons and their markings as required by the manufacturers installation/operation manual and as stipulated in American National Standard Institute B11.8 "Safety Requirements for Construction, Care, Use of Drilling, Milling, and Boring Machines, 2001 as follows: 6.14.3 "Stop Devices: Stop Devices shall be clearly marked and require only momentary actuation to initiate a stopping action.." NOTE: THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION FOR THIS ITEM IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.CE
