Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) At the job site located at 216 West 18th, on or about 12/4/08: Employee operating elevator transporting employees to various floors in the building was not protected by an interior elevator door. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Comply with ANSI A17.3-2002, Elevator Safety Standard; Section 1.5, Periodic Inspections. Section 2.6.1 and 3.4.1; which requires doors or gates at elevator hoistway entrances and inside the elevator car, and requires safety interlocks for all doors and gates in order to prevent the elevator from moving unless all doors and gates are closed. Note: The employer is required to submit abatement certification for this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19.ce
