Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to thermal burn hazards: Employees were exposed to thermal burn hazards from contact with the injection molding equipment. The surface temperature were measured in excess of 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Employees were exposed to burn hazards. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS; to install injection barrel guards, as supplied by the manufacture for the specific injection molding machines, or in the alternative, a barrier guard in accrodance with ANSI B151.1-1997, Sections 5.3.6, (Horizontal Injection Molding Machines Safety Requirements for Manufacture, Care, and Use.) 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is completed.
