Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by falling poles during the unloading process. On or about January 14, 2009 and at times prior thereto, at the Sun Electric job site located in Havana Arkansas at pole yard #2, employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by utility poles falling from the transport trailer during the unloading process. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to implement and enforce the company policy that requires the forklift operator to have visual contact and confirmation with the spotter, therefore assuring personnel are clear of the load before commencing the lift.ncing
