Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential crushing hazards from falling loads and/or lift parts: (a) For the employees performing service and maintenance underneath vehicles raised up on 2-post and 4-post automotive lifts without being lowered onto the safety locks, located at 30320 Ford Avenue, Tyndall, South Dakota. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would be to follow the requirements of ANSI/ALI ALOIM and/or ANSI B153.1 which includes, among other requirements, the following: 1.Institute a preventive maintenance program according to the manufacturer's specifications. 2.Provide training to employees on proper use and care of the lifts. 3.Ensure all lifts are rated and marked with their load capacity. 4.Schedule and complete all periodic and annual inspections.
