Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards, while placing items onto and off metal racks: On or about 01/08/09 at Winder, GA: Employees were exposed to struck by hazards, while placing items onto and off metal racks located in Buildings 824 and 828. The employer failed to anchor all rack columns to the floor with anchor bolts. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THESE HAZARDS IS: 1. The employer should become familiar with the requirements for the use of steel storage racks as written in ANSI MH16.1:2008. In accordance with paragraph 1.4.7, the employer shall install base plates on all columns, which support steel racks and secure the base plates to the floor with anchor bolts capable of resisting horizontal and vertical forces. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
