Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: fall hazard when working on an elevated platform on a powered industrial truck that was not secured to the lifting carriage and/or forks: (a)Bethlehem Steel Warehouse - The employer did not ensure that the lifting cage used with the Allis Chambers forklift was securely attached on or about October 17, 2008. Among other methods, one feasible means to correct this condition is to follow the requirement of section 4.17.3(b) of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) B56.1 "Safety Standards for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks."
