Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing, or likely to cause, death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards of being crushed, trapped, or thrown while operating the 955 John Deere tractor on uneven or sloping terrain which could result in roll-overs or flipping: (a) In that the employer did not ensure employees operating equipment with ROPs (roll-over protection) were using the provided seat restraints while operating the 955 John Deere tractor: A feasible means of abatement of these hazards include, but not limited to, the following: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to address this hazard is to: (a)Ensure seat belts are used by operators and that they understand the importance of how seat belts and ROPS function together. Note: Abatement certification and supporting documentation are required for this item.
