Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to a fall hazard: a) Florida South Hospital, Orlando, on or about 5/12/08, the window washing system had loose bolts and one rope was used for the safety line and the working line. Further, this rope was attached to the counter weights on the suspension device, in that, the building did not have an anchorage point to tie off to. Also, the manufacturer's instructions were not provided for the user of the suspension device. One feasible and acceptable abatement method would be to follow and implement the requirements of American National Standard Institute Window Cleaning Safety IWCA I-14.1-2001.
