Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that an employee was exposed to a struck-by and crushing hazard: On or about 08/15/2008, an employee was exposed to a struck-by/crushing hazard from the bucket of a front end loader, when replacing a metal plate that had fallen off while the equipment was still running. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure that prior to any maintenance or repairs, the equipment is shut "off" and the bucket is blocked to prevent an unexpected release of potential energy. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
