Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of being struck-by, caught-by and or crushed-by while working from the ground near a moving 51,320 lbs front- end-loader: On or about 07/16/2008, one employee was injured after being caught and dragged under a 51,320 lbs front-end-loader while working near the equipment. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard from occurring again is for the employer to implement strict procedures which would restrict employees to be working in the presence of operating heavy equipment, which would be consistent with following the manufacturer's recommendation as stated in the Operation & Maintenance Manual which states "Keep bystanders out of the work area". PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
