Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: FALLING

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards which were likely to cause death or serious physical harm from tripping and fall hazards, in that, the Montgomery-Kone Hydraulic Passenger Elevator was not level with the floor and was not guarded to prevent employees from entering the elevator while being serviced: a) On or about February 23, 2009, and at times prior, employees were exposed to injury while the elevator was being serviced and was not guarded from employees entering the elevator. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to use warning signs and barricades while servicing the elevators. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
