Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: On or about January 02, 2009, and times prior thereto, employees were exposed to being struck by and/or crushed by steel columns being lifted due to chocker hitch polyester slings not being protected from sharp edges on steel columns. Among other methods, two feasible and acceptable methods of correcting this hazard include, but are not limited to (1) Using slings specifically designed for use with materials having sharp edges and corners or (2) padding the slings with material of sufficient strength to minimize damage to the sling.
