Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a)Jobsite - on or about August 30, 2009 - employees were exposed to a struck by hazard while installing wood trusses. The employer did not install diagonal bracing for all of the installed wood trusses. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT INCLUDE FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES SET FORTH IN THE BUILDING COMPONENT SAFETY INFORMATION (BCSI) GUIDE, TRUSS INSTALLATION & TEMPORARY RESTRAINT/BRACING; SECTION B2 WHICH STATES: "IT IS CRITICAL TO NOTE THAT ALL LATERAL RESTRAINT MUST BE STABILIZED BY DIAGONAL BRACING INSTALLED ON THE SAME PLANE. LATERAL BRACING BY ITSELF IS NOT ADEQUATE WITHOUT THE ADDED RIGIDITY OF TRIANGULATION FROM THE DIAGONAL BRACING. THIS UNDERSTANDING IS ESSENTIAL FOR SAFE INSTALLATION". ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
