Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a)Jobsite - on or about September 16, 2008 - employees were exposed to a struck by hazard while installing wood trusses. The temporary diagonal bracing did not have the requisite fasteners installed to properly hold the trusses in place prior to permanent roof sheeting installations. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE MEANS OF ABATEMENT INCLUDE FOLLOWING THE GUIDELINES SET FORTH IN THE BUILDING COMPONENT SAFETY INFORMATION (BCSI) GUIDE, TRUSS INSTALLATION & TEMPORARY RESTRAINT/BRACING; SECTION B2, WHICH STATES: "FOR ALL BRACING AND LATERAL RESTRAINT MEMBERS, NAIL AS FOLLOWS - USE AT LEAST 2-10d (0.128 x 3"), 2-12d (0.128 x 3.5") OR 2-16d (0.131 x 3.5") NAILS INTO EACH TRUSS FOR BOTH LATERAL RESTRAINT AND DIAGONAL BRACING MEMBERS." ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
