Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: DUST&FUMES

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to potential explosion, deflagrations, and flame fronts entering back into the building due to a lack of isolation devices on the dust collection equipment and associated duct work: A) Clarion Bathware Inc.; baghouse outside of Grinding Room (Eurovac Model #RLO-40- 0550-2030) - On or about 7/1/11, the dust collector/bag house and its associated duct work did not have any isolation devices. The lack of isolation devices could allow an explosion originating in the dust collector/bag house to propagate back into the building. Condition potentially exposed personnel to the hazards associated with dust explosions/deflagrations. The bag house services operations for the grinding room. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to correct the conditions are to comply with applicable requirements noted in NFPA 654 and the installation of approved isolation devices.
