Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to serious injuries from 100+ psi pressurized air hoses that were not provided with a safety retaining device, in case of hose failure or accidental uncoupling to prevent the hose assembly from whipping violently due to sudden release of energy: a) At 100 Amer Road #200, Wilmington, DE - Employees observed working in Low Bay, Bay 3, NW side of Building 5 using 1/2 inch or larger compressed air hoses with 100+ psi without safety restraints, exposing the employees to possible struck by injuries from whipping hoses. This violation was observed on or about March 18, 2009. AMONG FEASIBLE MEANS ONE METHOD TO CORRECT THE SITUATION WOULD BE INSTALLATION OF STEEL CABLE RESTRAINTS MANUFACTURED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE SITUATION. FOR EXAMPLE USING WHIPCHECKS COMMONLY USED ON HOSE FOR AIR, WATER BLAST, DRILLING, SANDBLAST OR OTHER HIGH PRESSURE APPLICATIONS FOUND IN QUIK INDUSTRIAL SUPPLY:QIS INSTALLATION DIVERTS STRAIN TO THE WHIPCHECKS AND AVOIDS THE HOSE FROM WHIPPING IN CASE OF ACCIDENTS.
