Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: CRUSHING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that, employees were exposed to crushing hazards: Service / repair Area: On or about 03/16/2010 an employee sustained crushing injuries From the LEEBOY 8500. The machine was not properly secured per manufacturing recomendations. One feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazard is to provide training to the employees who will be conducting this type of maintenance and obtain and follow the equipment manufacturer recommendation on how to prop the hopper bed when disengaging the hydraulic lift arm. Specific abatement documentation is required.
