Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety & health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to crushing injuries in the event of a collapse of the wooden trusses: (a)Structure 1 / 3 Units: The employer had only 1 lateral temporary top chord brace on each side of the 6 in 12 sloped 31 foot wooden trusses and one gable brace in lieu of following the BCSI B1 Summary Sheet which calls for 2 top chord lateral bracing along with diagonal bracing and a gable brace at each location of the lateral braces as observed on 7-16-09. (b)Structure 2 / 3 Units: The employer had only 1 lateral temporary top chord brace on each side of the 6 in 12 sloped 31 foot wooden trusses and one gable brace in lieu of following the BCSI B1 Summary Sheet which calls for 2 top chord lateral bracing along with diagonal bracing and a gable brace at each location of the lateral braces as observed on 7-16-09. Abatement Note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement to correct this hazard would be to follow the appropriate BCSI guide lines for temporary bracing of wooden trusses.
