Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: UNAPEQUIP
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to impalement hazards and blunt force trauma: a)West End on Floor 2-I - Plumbers and mechanics were observed working from ladders 7 feet 6 inches above a floor that contained numerous pieces of 2 to 2 1/2 inch diameter metal piping and 1 1/4 inch diameter metal conduit, that were 8 to 12 inches above the floor, exposing them to potential impalement hazards and blunt force trauma, on or about 12/19/08. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to establish proper impalement protection, either by using protective caps, wooden troughs or other acceptable covers over the piping and metal conduits.
