Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: HEAT
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) On or about 11/29/07 in the Red Building; during the defrosting of Room 9 evaporator piping containing ammonia located on the ceiling of Room 11 were struck and hit with wooden 2x4's and other pieces of woods to loosen frost and ice build up subjecting piping to damage and or leaks. One feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this condition would be; eliminate the overhead piping as a cooling/refrigeration source and install updated refrigeration system, allow frost and ice to melt naturally, use external heat sources to increase temperature of Room 11.
