Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to cuts and laceration hazards: In the Maintenance Room of Plant 2: On or about August 4, 2009, and at times prior thereto, the compressed air used by the employer in a portion of Plant 2 was piped in an above-ground PVC pipe system that was not enclosed in a conduit or casing of sufficient strength to provide protection should the PVC pipe fail. Note: Abatement certification required for this item. Abatement Note: Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable means of abatement to correct this hazard are to replace the PVC pipe with a steel pipe system designed for compressed air or encase the PVC system in a shatter-resistant material.esistant
