Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: BURNS
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a) On or about June 7, 2008, in the corn soaking/cooking area, employees were allowed to work near a natural gas line which was not properly capped. Employees were thereby exposed to the hazards associated with fire. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods include following the requirements for installation of fuel gas piping systems, appliances, equipment, and related accessories as explained in the NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code, 2006 edition/ANSI Z223.1-59, Section 7.7.2.1, Cap All Outlets.
