Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: LIFTING
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational safety and Health Act of 1970: the employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a. On or about March 5, 2008, in the facility, employees working in the galvanizing area were exposed to struck by hazards in the event of a carbon steel chain failure. The original Carbon Steel Chain (Proof Coil Chain Grade 30) was less than 31/64 inches and had obvious defects including, but not limited to, excessive pitting and weld deterioration. Feasible and acceptable abatement methods include, but are not limited to: Following the Chains for Overhead Lifting Guideline published by the American Galvanizers Association and/or Welded Steel Chain Specifications published by the National Association of Chain Manufacturers.
