Text For Citation: 01 Item/Group: 001 Hazard: STRUCK BY
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by and run over hazards: a.4X4 House Outfeed: On or about January 5, 2009 and at times prior, the employer did not ensure that pedestrian employees were protected from struck-by and run over hazards by being made aware of the blind spots of a Caterpillar 950H prior to approaching the equipment. One feasible abatement method to abate this hazard is by instructing the pedestrian employees to stay away from equipment such as the Caterpillar 950H and not approach the equipment until the driver of the equipment and the pedestrian have made contact either via a radio or by some type of hand signaling.
