Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to hazards associated with walking/working behind vehicles with obstructed views: Hanscom Pit Road - On or about August 29, 2007, an employee sustained fatal injuries when an operator drove the 1989 Dodge Ram #350 service truck with an obstructed rear view and no back-up alarm or person signaling the driver, it was safe to operate the vehicle in reverse. Among other methods one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to install a audible back-up alarm on the service truck or have an observer guide the vehicle safety while traveling in reverse.
